Whilst listening to Donald Fagen’s Nightfly Album during a late night party in the spring of 2008 a friend of Bob Cushing suggested that he should form a Steely Dan tribute band.
Having been a life long admirer of Becker and Fagen’s music Bob decided to accept the challenge and over the following year assembled a line up of top musicians capable of doing justice to this ‘involved’ music. As Bob comments ‘I explained to everyone beforehand that we would either do this right or not at all’
Steemy Dan thus became one of only a few bands in the UK to even attempt playing these beautifully crafted tunes with their wonderful amalgam of styles and genres.
In 2012 the band came to the attention of BBC Radio’s Stephen Foster who explains…..
“I first caught Steemy Dan at The Cut in Halesworth and was not disappointed. I was mightily impressed with their superb take on Steely Dan and knowledge of all things Becker and Fagen. I met them backstage and invited them to play on the BBC Radio Suffolk stage at Ipswich Music Day and, as I expected, they went down a storm." The Band have also been described by one of London's foremost critics as "the closest you could get to the real thing" and been endorsed by legendary session guitarist Elliot Randall, who performed the well-known guitar solo on the original recording of 'Reelin' in the Years' which alongside many other classic tunes such asDo it again, Rikki don’t lose that number, Haitian Divorce, F.M. etc. have audiences rocking during the Band's classy performances.
Steemy Dan are based in East Anglia but tour the whole of the UK performing mainly in Theatres but are also available for private functions if required.
