Celebrating 120 Years of the Pavilion in Gorleston
Today we are celebrating the Pavilion's 120th birthday. Opened in 1901, the building has been proudly standing looking over Gorleston beach and entertaining audiences from across the world.
The building was originally opened as a Shelter Hall but was met with a frenzy on opening day as some of the building work had yet to be completed. The first concerts took place even though some of the windows had yet to be installed!
Over the years the building has seen many uses, including army occupation, a cinema and even a radio and TV studio. Today it is a thriving all-year-round theatre and stages productions from plays to musicals and the popular pantomime and summer seasons.
Whilst the pandemic has made things difficult, we are planning to celebrate in style a little later in the year with a special fundraising gala performance.
