It is a bright summer’s day in Beddington, and the Beavers Street allotment folk have been busy tending their plots. Now they have gathered for afternoon tea in front of Margery Mullberry’s potting shed. All is well, or so it seems.
However, unbeknown to this gardening fraternity, plans are afoot to redevelop the allotment site, turning it into a private health club and golf course.
It is inconceivable to Chairperson Margery that this could happen without her knowledge. After all Councillor Bingley Bushel is a very close friend of hers and surely wouldn’t do anything like this without telling her first.
As this farce unfolds, Margery finds her trust has been misguided. Not only have the plans been passed, the allotment holders are being given just one day to vacate. Enraged, Margery rallies her motley horticultural troops to take up arms, or hoe and spade, against Councillor Bushel and the bulldozers.
Can they win the day?
